With the season coming towards the end...

... A little review is in order. (Watch this space for more reviews of many over clubs in the next couple of days/weeks).

In my opinion to start of this blog there is no finer way to do so than with Newport County AFC. No I do not support the orange army but they fully deserve the opening post after their magnificant season which has shocked many.

Lets here it for Newpoooort! Prehaps not got the same ring to it as the Alicia Keys tune but this season no-one can deny they have been top class. After disapointingly finishing mid-table last season you could not be critisized for thinking they may well have a relegation battle on their hands this year.. How wrong you could be! A massive 23 points seperated County from second place Dover to put them just one more promotion away from reclaiming their spot in the football league. This is down to many things:

1 - Fantastic managing from Dean 'crazy gang' Holdsworth who is becoming knows for his managerial skills rather than his antics at Wimbledon all those years ago

2 - Goals Goals Goals, The Exiles needed just 7 more goals to reach a century in what has been a fantastic performance infront of goal

But last and not least at number three it is down to their magnificant support. From their first game the support for Newport this season has been tremendous. Just over 1,000 fans attended their first home match of the season and then it soared!.. Crowds were reaching as high as 4,000 in March when they hosted Havant and W'. If their support stays the same next season who knows, Welsh football may well have three clubs in the Football League once more.

So here is to the Blue Square South Champions 2009/10 - Newport County:
